Since 1954, Tebo’s Restaurant has been a popular Portland area restaurant offering hot-off-the-grill hamburgers, fresh-cut fries, healthy salads, delicious homemade desserts and much, much more!

History & Timeline

February 1954 – Gene & Joe’s Opens For Business

Opened in 1954 on McLoughlin Boulevard, it was actually called Gene and Joe’s Broiler.


March 1962 – Ted & Bob Buy Gene & Joe’s Broiler

In 1962, Ted Anderson and Bob Horn buy Gene & Joe’s Broiler.


November 1972 – Ted & Bob Open New Building

They weren’t sure what to call the restaurant at first. Then a customer suggested they use the first two letters of each owner’s name. Ted & Bob was combined and Tebo’s was born.

Ted and Bob always had a close relationship with the thousands of customers who ate at Tebos each week. Can you imagine knowing 85% of your customers by name? Well, they did. And the customers knew they could count on consistent, high quality food. And several months of the year of fresh (and famous) Strawberry Shortcake.


May 1974 – Craig Klein starts at Tebo’s as a Broiler Cook


July 1974 – King City Tebo’s Opens


June 1977 – John Karlik starts at Tebo’s as a Dishwasher


August 1977 – Gresham Tebo’s Opens


April 1980 – Gresham Tebo’s Sold


December 1981 – King City Tebo’s Sold


January 2005– John & Craig Buy Tebo’s

In 2005, Tebo’s changed hands. But Ted & Bob sold the restaurant to two guys who have worked at Tebo’s for more than 25 years. Craig Klein and John Karlik started their Tebo’s career flipping burgers and washing dishes. Then, they managed the restaurant for many years before finally having the chance to buy it.

Craig and John are continuing Tebo’s heritage of consistently having the highest quality food. And just like Ted and Bob before them, they know thousands of their customers by name. If you eat there often, expect them to learn your name, too.
